Preschool

Welcome to the Preschool Program at Colegio Internacional de San Salvador!

Our preschool program consists of Kinder (Parvularia 5) and Prepa (Parvularia 6). The Kinder year provides an opportunity for students to be exposed to English and Spanish on a daily basis. Spanish teachers communicate with students in Spanish, while English teachers communicate with students in English. Students develop their gross and fine motor skills, social skills, learn to follow a routine and begin to take responsibility for simple tasks. Students participate in art, library, physical education (which includes swimming and dance), and music class in addition to the core subjects of English, Spanish and math. By the end of Kinder, students are able to communicate in both English and Spanish, have a strong number sense of numbers 0 to 10, have mastered their vowels, and can write their name.

Prepa is a very academic year during which students learn to read and write in Spanish, forming a strong foundation for reading and writing in English in first grade.  Their oral English and Spanish continues to develop, as do their social skills, motor skills, organization and responsibility. By the end of the school year they have mastered the cursive alphabet in Spanish, and can read many high frequency words in English. In addition to the art, library, physical education, and music classes which they enjoyed in Kinder, they also begin to go to the computer lab to learn some technology basics. By the end of Prepa, they can solve addition and subtraction facts up to 10, recite numbers up to 100, read fluently in Spanish, and speak fluently in English.

Although our school is extremely academic, the physical and emotional safety of your child is always our first priority. We work with children that come to us from a variety of cultural and educational backgrounds, and understand that each individual learning journey is unique.

If you have any questions about our Preschool Program feel free to e-mail me. We welcome you to visit our school, and look forward to the possibility of having your child form part of the CISS family!

Sincerely,

“Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what. If you don’t listen to the little stuff when they are little, they won’t tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff.”
