Early Childhood

It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you to the Early Childhood Section of CISS!

This section is made up of Kindergarten (K-4) and Preparatory (K-5).
Our commitment is to facilitate students’ transition from smaller pre-schools to a more formal school setting. We provide our young students with a challenging learning program while stressing the importance of social, personal, and physical development as well.

We take pride in our culturally diverse school climate which fosters traditional values as well as high academic and behavioral standards. Our nurturing early childhood teaching staff helps our youngest students adapt to the routine and structure of the new school community and environment. We are dedicated to ensuring that students feel safe and secure at school, and to helping non-English speakers feel comfortable in an English speaking school atmosphere. While knowledge of the English language is not a requirement to begin our kinder program, we do expect students to have acquired basic English conversation skills by the time they finish their preparatory year. Also by the end of preparatory, students are expected to have acquired cursive writing and fluent reading skills in Spanish. They participate in art, computer, swimming, dance, and physical education classes as well.

The early childhood program is loaded with creative, multicultural, fun yet challenging hands-on activities. Our young students are included and participate in all school activities including assemblies, environmental projects, pep-rallies, spirit week, and student council community service projects just to name a few. If you have any questions about our Early Childhood Section please feel free to contact me. We welcome you to visit our school, and look forward to the possibility of having your child form part of the CISS family!

Sincerely,
Lois Takemura.
Head of Early Childhood.
